I just learnt that the botanical name for snowdrop, Galanthus, comes from the Greek gala+anthos, ‘milk flower’. Delighted to discover this on the same day I read this post!

Since we are talking about ancient Greece and that language, shouldn't the reference to the son of Zeus and Alcmena be "Heracles" and not the Roman name Hercules?
